Two UNC Basketball commits named to 2024 McDonalds All-American Game roster
By Jordan Falls
While the 2023-2024 UNC Basketball team has been on a hot streak, winning nine straight games, the Tar Heels of the future had some news announced on Tuesday afternoon. Hubert Davis currently has a top-10 recruiting class for 2024 with three commits. Ian Jackson, Drake Powell, and James Brown are all three committed and signed to the UNC Basketball program. Each is expected to step foot on campus during the summer of 2024 in preparation for the next season.
Two of those three commits have added to the list of accolades for this recruiting class by earning McDonald's All-American honors as they have been named to the rosters for the annual game involving the nation's top 24 high school boys basketball players.
Ian Jackson and Drake Powell were both named to the 2024 McDonalds All-American game roster. 247Sports most recently updated their Class of 2024 recruiting rankings, with Jackson being ranked No. 8 and Powell No. 9. With the selections of these two Tar Heels for the 2024 McDonald's All-American game, this now gives the UNC Basketball program 83 total McDonald's All-Americans since 1977.
Both players will get to play with each other prior to stepping foot on campus in Chapel Hill, as they will be on the same team on the East roster. The McDonald's All-American game will be played on Tuesday, April 2nd, with the girls game tipping off first at 6:30 PM ET on EPSN2. The boys game will follow at 9:00 PM ET on ESPN.
North Carolina is one of five schools with multiple 2024 commits named to the McDonald's All-American game roster joining Alabama, Kentucky, Duke, and Rutgers with two commits each. There are three players who have yet to commit to a school, however the Tar Heels do not appear to be in the conversation for any of those prospects.
