Multiple players with UNC basketball connections earn Mid-Season All-American honors
By Austin Owens
College Hoops Today recently revealed their Midseason All-American Teams. The list consists of a first team, second team, third team along with five honorable mentions. Naturally, we rushed to the list to see how many Tar Heels we could find. You can find the entire article here, but we will save you some time if you are only curious about UNC players.
To no surprise, R.J. Davis made the First Team Midseason All-American squad. Davis is having a standout senior season and has emerged as a candidate for National Player of the Year. He is 8th in the country in scoring (21.5 points per game) and is playing 35 minutes per game. We may continue to see his scoring average climb, as he has scored 21 points or more in four of his last five games.
Obviously, his impressive scoring ability was the main reason he made this list, but R.J. Davis helps this team win in other ways that can't go unnoticed. Opposing teams focus on Davis (as they should), which leaves room for his teammates to make plays. One of those teammates is Harrison Ingram.
Harrison Ingram is the only other UNC player that could have an argument for making this list. Ingram is averaging 12.1 points per game and 8.8 rebounds. He has turned in numerous double-double performances this season, including three of his last four games. He is not quite there yet but don't be surprised if Harrison Ingram works his way to at least Third Team All-American by season's end.
This list of players has one more tie to the University of North Carolina. Former Carolina point guard Caleb Love got a spot on the Honorable Mention team. Love, who transferred to Arizona following last season, is averaging 19.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists. It continues to seem that Caleb Love exiting UNC was the best case sceaniro for him personally and the Tar Heel program.
