Secondary Concerns

From a bird's eye perspective, Charlotte's passing attack against North Carolina was concerning. After throwing just 22/45 for 193 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions against JMU, Max Brown went 8/12 for 175 yards before leaving the game early with a hand injury.

More important than the numbers Brown was able to put up was the manner in which he was able to stack them. In Charlotte's second drive, Brown had a 25-yard completion to former Tar Heel Justin Olson and a 37-yard completion to Jairus Mack (on 4th & 5!!!). On their next drive, Charlotte had consecutive pass plays for 23, 30, and 10 yards.

Charlotte opened their first drive of the second quarter with a 40-yard completion to Jairus Mack, and that was the last possession that Max Brown played before Deshawn Purdie came in and underwhelmed.

North Carolina's secondary needs to study this film and clean things up. If Charlotte was able to carve up the defense like this, ACC opponents will take it a step further and finish their drives with not only deep completions, but touchdowns.
