UNC can't waste Omarion Hampton the way they did to Maye and Howell

Don't take the best high school talent in the state of North Carolina and squander it. If you do, you'll eventually lose them to Michigan and Georgia, or even (gulp) NC State.

In the first half, Hampton had some galluping runs, including bursts for 17, 9, 10, and 37 yards. The Blue Devils were getting taxed trying to bring down the All-ACC running back.

Walking away from this game with only 20 points indicates a lack of adequate playcalling. North Carolina's offensive line is a better run-blocking unit than a pass-protecting one. And if you're not going to get the results required, someone needs to look out for Hampton's long-term well-being, as it's directly tied to North Carolina's chances for sustained success this season. Hampton's 29 carries nearly matched his season high (30) at Minnesota.

Davion Gause had 17 yards in two carries spelling Hampton in the first half. We've seen what he can do against Charlotte. Sprinkle him in more. For the love of God, though, don't break Omarion Hampton. I don't know if I'll ever recover if that happened while we lose to Pitt or Georgia Tech while only scoring 17 points.
