At least one UNC basketball team saw changes in this week's rankings

The UNC Women's Basketball program entered last week No. 20 in the rankings following their impressive victory over then No. 13-ranked Louisville. The Tar Heels appeared destined to keep that winning streak going and moving up through the rankings after a 66-61 victory over Miami on Thursday.
However a trip to Charlottesville to play Virginia tripped up North Carolina as they lost 81-66 to the 10-10 Cavaliers. The loss to Virginia is certainly not a good one to have on the resume and it showed with the AP voters this week.
The UNC Women's Basketball program was dropped four spots to No. 24 in the AP Poll. However, they will certainly have opportunities to get back on track and pick up big wins in the coming week. The first test will come at No. 5 and rival NC State on Thursday in Raleigh. A win over the Wolfpack would certainly gain some votes back after the loss to Virginia. No. 17 Virginia Tech then comes to Carmichael on Sunday afternoon.
Across campus and in the Dean E. Smith Center, the No. 3 ranked UNC Basketball program continued its hot streak and moved its win streak to 10 games, dating back to before Christmas. The two wins last week came against top teams in the ACC, Wake Forest and Florida State.
The Tar Heels are now at the point where essentially the only way to move up in the rankings is if someone in front of you loses, and there aren't many opportunities with only two teams in front of North Carolina. The Tar Heels stayed at No. 3 this week and have two games this week, with one being a top-10 matchup.
Of course, North Carolina plays at Georgia Tech on Tuesday evening. Then the Tar Heels will welcome ESPN's College GameDay to Chapel Hill on Saturday when rival Duke comes into town ranked No. 7 in this week's AP Poll.
The matchup between the Blue Devils and Tar Heels will be the first matchup since the 2019 ACC Tournament Semifinals in which both teams will be ranked.
