The early season sack boon for Jahvarie Ritzie has dried up. Linebacker Amare Campbell has been a revelation, rolling up three sacks with a club for a hand. But anyone watching North Carolina's defense can see a Kaimon Rucker-sized hole missing from the edge, and so can opposing offenses when they stay on the field after third down plays.

Kaimon Rucker could potentially be available against Pitt, and it wouldn't be a moment too soon. The Tar Heels defense needs another playmaker, and Rucker has been the heartbeat of the team for the past two years. His will is needed as much as his skill.

Pitt's freshman quarterback Eli Holstein has been sacked 11 times in four games this season, and it's important that North Carolina not let him get comfortable and in rhythm. If they can hurry Holstein up, maybe they can force him into a bad throw. The UNC football program has only had one interception so far this season. Having a panicked quarterback running for his life could improve that number.
