3 Predictions for UNC Football program's homecoming game against Pitt
The worm has turned for the Tar Heels. Is it time to adjust expectations?
Slot needs to be a bigger slice of the pie
Nate McCollum and Kobe Paysour combined for just four catches for 43 yards against Duke. In years past, Paysour might have had that all by himself in just a quarter. Josh Downs, the patron saint of UNC slot receivers, might have had that in a drive.
It's clear that North Carolina's offense is missing many things right now, but one of the remedies is quick passes to open slot receivers who can rack up big yardage after the catch, and if they can make a defender miss, steal a touchdown here or there.
So far, McCollum has only really shown positive contributions on end-arounds or gimmick plays. For the offense to get into fourth gear, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey needs to get his slots involved.
