Paul Finebaum confirms what most of us already knew - the SEC wants UNC.

The radio host/pundit/ESPN personality was a guest on 'McElroy and Cubelic in the morning' sharing the latest gossip about the SEC's potential interest in the Tar Heels and vice versa.ย

"North Carolina has always been the number one choice of many people in SEC circles," Finebaum said. "The only question is when exactly does it happen and secondly, who would their drafting partner be?"

That's a pretty good question and there isn't a definite answer out there. Clemson checks a lot of boxes, but there's going to be significant push back from South Carolina. The same issues would exist for Georgia Tech, Louisville and potentially FSU or Miami.

Adding Duke probably makes more sense than some of us want to admit. The Duke-UNC basketball game has great value in college sports, it's the most valuable game in college basketball. You have to believe the SEC would like to have that in its portfolio.ย

There;s no perfect partner for UNC in the ACC, but if I were a guessing man, I'd say it'll come down to Clemson, Duke and FSU.ย

Once thing that appears safe to say, if UNC leaves the ACC it's likely the conference implodes. While FSU and Clemson were publicly feuding with the ACC and, as a result, changed the revenue structure and exit fees., UNC was moving in relative silence and setting itself up for a historic move and a financial windfall.

And when UNC makes the eventual announcement, expect the vultures to move fast at picking the bones of this once-respected league. The Big Ten would swoop in and take a few, the Big XII wiill swoop in and take the best leftovers. But UNC? It seems like the Tar Heels' future destination is set according to Finebaum.

"Even thought the ACC is now singing 'kumbaya', we all know there are a lot of anxious schools in there," Finebaum added. "I've said all that as a pre-emble to say that I thiink, ultimately, it's going to happen."
