Omarion Hampton once again named the ACC Running Back of the Week
By Luke Sugar
Omarion Hampton keeps on adding to his legendary Tar Heels legacy, racking up the accolades. Hampton was named the Week 12 ACC Running Back of the Week after his monster game versus Wake Forest.
This marks Hampton’s third ACC Running Back of the Week award this season (he won the award in week 3 and in week 10).
This past Saturday versus Wake Forest, Hampton stampeded for his season-best — and career-best — 244 yards. He hurdled and trucked his way into the end zone on a 6-yard rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter — effectively sealing the UNC football program's win.
On the season, Hampton has an unbelievable 1,422 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns thus far. He’s also added 281 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
According to the ACC’s article on the Week 12 ACC Players of the Week, Hampton reached a historic milestone after the Wake Forest win.
“Hampton moved into fifth place in North Carolina history for rushing yards and is now the only Tar Heel in school history to rush for over 100 yards in eight consecutive games.”
Hampton is the heartbeat of this Tar Heels squad. Every time he puts on his pads, he only has one mode: full throttle. Hampton is a wrecking ball, running rampant through defenses.
At 6-foot, 220 pounds, Hampton is a do-it-all back. He can torch defenders with his explosive speed, or he can steamroll defenders with a strong stiff arm. Hampton will find his way into the end zone, even if that means dragging a man on his back and over the goal line.
After their win versus Wake Forest, the Tar Heels are 6-4, on a three-game winning streak and bowl eligible for their sixth straight season. And the man most responsible for the Tar Heels’ season turnaround? Omarion Hampton.
If North Carolina hopes to keep their momentum rolling and finish the season strong, Hampton will be the X-factor for the Tar Heels.
