Omarion Hampton of the UNC football program has been one of the most dominant offensive players in the country since his college career began, and his efforts have not been unnoticed this season. As the ACC’s leading rusher in 2024, Hampton has just been named a semifinalist for the 88th Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year.

The junior out of Clayton, North Carolina, has 1,178 rushing yards on the season, the most in the ACC, and 197 yards ahead of Clemson’s Phil Mafah (981).  Hampton also leads the ACC in rushing touchdowns with 13 and is number one in the conference in total touchdowns outside of quarterbacks with 14. He currently ranks third in the nation with an average of 160.33 all-purpose yards per game.

Hampton’s career in Chapel Hill has been littered with record-setting achievements, including his seven consecutive 100-yard rushing games in 2024, which officially tied the all-time school record.

Two other notable ACC players listed as semifinalists for the Maxwell Award include Cade Klubnik of Clemson and Cam Ward of Miami. Klubnik is third in all of FBS in passing touchdowns with 24, and Ward is leading the nation with 32 passing touchdowns with just six interceptions.

The winner of the 88th Maxwell Award will be announced during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show, which will air live on ESPN on Thursday, December 12.
