The UNC football program's star running back, Omarion Hampton, seems to be breaking records every time he steps on the field.

Last week against Wake Forest, the junior posted a career-high 244 yards on the ground and became the first Tar Heel in program history to rush for 100 yards in eight consecutive games. Hampton also currently has the second-most rushing yards in the nation (1422), trailing only Heisman candidate Ashton Jeanty (1,893).

This week, as the UNC football program travels to Boston College seeking their fourth straight win, Hampton will have the chance to make some more history.

Just 78 rushing yards away from cracking the 1,500-yard milestone on the season, Hampton has the chance to be the fourth ACC player over the past two decades to record back-to-back 1500-yard seasons. He would join a short list of three current NFL superstars: Lamar Jackson, Dalvin Cook, and Travis Etienne.

At the rate Hampton's been playing, he might have a shot to hit this milestone in the first half of the Boston College game this Saturday. In week 12, SMU running back Brashard Smith ran all over the Eagle's defense, going for 120 yards and a touchdown in the Mustangs' 38-28 win.

North Carolina head coach Mack Brown has been just as impressed with anybody, praising Hampton after his career game

"I was on a radio show before the season started and somebody said, "Where does he rank in the great backs you've coached?" And I said he's in the middle of it. He really is. And there's some great ones. Everybody in the country would want Omarion Hampton on their team, he's gonna be a great pro player."

While Hampton has certainly solidified himself as one of the all-time Tar Heel greats, he still has the opportunity to solidify himself as THE greatest ever. With 1,422 rushing yards on the season, Hampton is just 298 yards shy of the legendary Don McCauley's single-season rushing yards record of 1720, set over five decades ago in 1970.

With just two regular-season games left, Hampton would need an average of 149 rushing yards per game to tie the record. But after what we've seen from him this season- I wouldn't put it past him.
