This week, the 2024 Walter Camp All-America teams were announced, as a pair of UNC football standouts earned spots on the Second Team. Junior running back Omarion Hampton and senior offensive lineman Willie Lampkin were the two Tar Heels who received this honor.
Omarion Hampton was a no-brainer for Walter Camp All-America Second Team. Hampton was on the 2023 All-America First Team as well. This year, Hampton had his best college season yet. Hampton rushed for 1,660 yards with 15 rushing touchdowns. This surpasses his sophomore year rushing yards by over 150 yards. Hampton also improved his receiving game with career highs in reception, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Hampton had 38 receptions, 373 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Omarion Hampton has made a huge impact on this North Carolina offensive attack and deserves this honor.
Senior offensive lineman Willie Lampkin played a significant part in this season's offensive line. This is Lampkin's first Walter Camp All-America team. Lampkin has played in all 12 games this season for the Tar Heels. The senior lineman greatly benefited the Tar Heels, helping guide them to being the number-one rushing offense in the ACC this season. The Tar Heels ran for 189.5 yards per game. Lampkin has been impressive for the Tar Heels since he transferred to Chapel Hill for his junior season.
Both Hampton and Lampkin deserve this honor and expect more to be coming their way at the end of the season. They have led this offense throughout the 2024 season and have started to receive national recognition for their success.
