Near Perfect Point Guard Play
Boopie Miller is not a stranger to UNC fans. The Tar Heels have gone toe-to-toe with him twice before last night, once with Wake Forest, and last season in Chapel Hill against SMU. Both times, Miller did not show this kind of production.
Last night was a whole new thing. Boopie Miller was in flow state, shooting 10-for-13 from the field (3-for-5 from three, 4-for-5 from the free throw line) and dropping 12 (TWELVE!!!) dimes on a night where the Mustangs found it extremely easy to score. Why is that? Boopie Miller was finding his buddies in excellent positions to score, especially after dragging multiple defenders out of position through superb ball handling and screen manipulation.
In his previous two outings against Carolina, he scored 5 and 9 points respectively, so you'll forgive Hubert Davis if he didn't put Boopie Miller at the top of the scouting report. He won't make that mistake if UNC runs into the Ponies at the ACC Tournament in Charlotte this year, that's for sure. But the damage is done, the loss must be swallowed, and Boopie Miller joins the pantheon of small guards that absolutely toasted North Carolina along such stalwarts as Tyrese Rice and Nijel Pack.
