Sack Lunch

North Carolina's defense is bowing up at the just the right time. After giving up 34+ points in its first three losses, UNC is improving across the board in its defensive metrics, most importantly on the defensive line. And part of that is killing drives with sacks.

Steve Belichick's crew accumulated nine sacks against Stanford, and once again, Delaware transfer Melkart Abou Jaoude led the way (along with linebacker Tyler Thompson) with three apiece. Andrew Simpson had two, and Smith Vilbert had UNC's ninth.

Witness the destruction:

One of these sacks was also a strip sack that was recovered by Smith Vilbert. While UNC's offense continues to struggle, the defense will keep the team in tight contests, and give Freddie Kitchens additional bites at the apple. Long may it continue.
