Who is the primary running back?

After his top performance at Syracuse, you'd think that Demon June would get workhorse carries against the Cardinal. But the freshman running back was largely ineffectual, rushing just three times for four yards after going for 101 yards rushing and 81 yards receiving at Syracuse.

This time, it was Davion Gause leading the backfield charge, with 11 carries for (deep gulp) 28 yards. He did, however, have three catches for 51 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown catch that was more wideout than halfback, and I mean that as an absolute compliment.

Having a stable of studs that you can call on to carry the rock is a good thing, but not knowing which running back is going to get you out of trouble is a concern. UNC looks more like the latter, and that could spell trouble against stronger defenses.

Fortunately for the Tar Heels, Stanford had the No. 9 ranked rush defense in the ACC. NC State, Wake Forest, and Duke are No. 10-12, respectively, and they're the last three teams left on the schedule. Hopefully, UNC's rushing offense can crank out better numbers against them than it did against Stanford.
