The UNC basketball program is known for having nerve-racking games before the first Duke game of the year. It looked like the Tar Heels were well on their way to breaking that curse (immediately after beating Georgia Tech in Atlanta, no less!), but Syracuse did their best to make North Carolina sweat.
UNC has never been as good as Duke at putting their foots on the throats of lesser opponents. Some of that Coach K cruelty would have come in handy against an Orange squad that seemed overmatched, but did their best to make things interesting.
