Line-Ups Galore!
Hubert Davis was like Roy Williams on steroids with his line-ups last night. For the third time in three games, Coach Davis made a change to the starting line-up, this time dropping Jarin Stevenson for Jaydon Young. It was a bold call, as Young sacrifices a lot of height compared to Stevenson, but the Alabama transfer was not getting the job done defensively, so perhaps this change was to send a message.
Aside from the starting line-up, the rotation was unrecognizable. It was like Hubert Davis put every player's name into a Boggle grid to determine who would come in next. Zayden High was the first Tar Heel to check into the game, followed by Luka Bogavac. Stevenson didn't get in until the 13:16 mark, when Coach Davis made three subs at once!
I didn't detect anyone being in trouble. Were rewards being doled out for performing in practice? Did Coach Davis just need to see how different pieces fit together? Whatever the reason, it was clear that something needed to change after that nightmare trip to California. Hopefully, he learned whatever he needed to and can apply those lessons to a resurgent Virginia team.
