Derek Dixon Ascendent

Don't look now, but this is the second game in a row that freshman Derek Dixon has 1.) played more minutes than and 2.) scored more points than starting point guard Kyan Evans.

Evans was looking for his offense early in the game after scoring just one field goal against Kentucky for two points. He hit UNC's first shot, a well taken three-pointer, and finished the first half with seven points. That was also his game total.

Meanwhile, Dixon only scored a career-high 14 points and matched the NCCU win for most three-pointers in a game with three. Dixon also added three rebounds and three assists. Evans was yet again saddled with foul trouble, several of them on the silly/unnecessary side.

If Evans can't right the ship on defense, Dixon is proving more than capable of taking on the increased workload. And if he keeps responding positively, the two players could easily see their spots in the rotation swapped rather easily. Evans has an opportunity with the post-exams schedule to get his groove back against softer competition, but he doesn't have much time left before Dixon makes the team his.
