Elliot Cadeau given space to score
Against NC State, Elliot Cadeau had 11 assists. Cal seemed intent on closing off passing lanes to keep Cadeau in check. Early in the first half, he had two turnovers trying to get short alley-oops off to Jalen Washington when the Golden Bears crowded that action.
So, he adjusted and started attacking the rim. If you looked at how he got to the tin, it was akin to a baseball pitcher throwing a change-up. Cadeau didn't barrel towards the rim with reckless abandon, but would run plays, and when he saw defenders sag, he put up shots with the found space.
Cadeau had 15 points on 7/15 shooting, including 1/2 from three. You never want your scouting report to be chiseled in stone. Cadeau having scoring nights like this will force teams to defend him honestly. And post players will need to pay attention when he's penetrating. Cadeau almost killed Lee Dort with a dunk attempt. Had he connected, Dort would have needed to go into witness protection.
