Markus Burton, Notre Dame's leading scorer, had a modest stat line. 11 points on 3/11 shooting was not going to be enough to help the Irish upset Carolina. But you'll forgive the 5-foot-11 sophomore guard who had 6-foot-6 Drake Powell guarding him to start the game. And when Powell needed a blow, Hubert Davis brought in Seth Trimble to take over Burton duty.

Coach Davis has played this game before, putting Leaky Black on Virginia point guard Kihei Clark. Clark was bothered by Black's length, and so was Burton with Powell's. Powell did rack up four fouls, though, two in quick succession to start the second half.

Markus Burton averaged 21.7 points per game this season and shot 38.1% from three. There is an RJ Davis-shaped hole in next season's squad. Hubert Davis might want to have a quick word in the hall with Burton before he heads back to Notre Dame.
