Henri Veesaar stands tall
One of Hubert Davis's top orders of business last offseason was to add size to a small UNC squad that couldn't defend the paint or rebound. Caleb Wilson answers part of that equation. Henri Veesaar finishes it.
Veesaar had his issues in the first half, coughing up the ball in possession when he brought it down below his chest, letting smaller Kansas guards vulture at his hands. But that can be corrected in short order. What you can't teach is the deft high-low passing he had with Caleb Wilson or his ability to reach for high passes that cannot be intercepted.
He also showed a smooth stroke from outside, hitting 2 of 3 three-pointers in the first half to keep UNC within touching distance of Kansas when they were threatening to build a double-digit lead. His ability to catch alley-oops from insane angles or sky for put-back dunks will serve Carolina well throughout the season.
One area he'll need to improve is attacking switches in the post. Several times when he found himself one-on-one with guards in the paint, he recycled the ball out to the perimeter instead of attacking his defender. He can get some easy points with his soft half-hook on shorter defenders.
