Lessons Learned as UNC basketball opens up conference play with a win over FSU

The Tar Heels looked stuck between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, but had enough to put away the Seminoles.

Unstoppable Caleb Wilson

North Carolina did not look up at the races when the ball tipped off against Florida State. UNC did not score until its fifth possession, and the Seminoles were doing a good job of keeping the Tar Heels out of the paint. UNC settled for too many bad threes, and as a consequence, was down 7-3 with 14 minutes left in the half.

That’s when Caleb Wilson launched a frontal assault on the rim. He got tip-ins, and-1’s, dunks, you name it. He finished the first half with 14 points and 9 rebounds, en route to finishing the game with 22 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks. This was a Leaky Black-esque stat sheet, only if Leaky rebounded like Bacot and scored like Hansbrough.

Wilson was firing on all cylinders when a lot of his teammates looked lost or lazy. He was driving the ball up court after rebounding, firing passes to corners, and of course, throwing down some of the most violent dunks you’ve seen since Vince Carter soared in the Dean Dome.

There’s no doubt that Caleb Wilson will be a lottery pick in this summer’s NBA Draft. At the rate he’s going, the only question is, how high will he go?
