The first half lead melted away, but the Tar Heels had enough to dispatch the Bonnies in Fort Myers.

Size vs Size

Michigan State has plenty of size that St. Bonaventure lacks. Frank Mitchell was the biggest Bonnie at just 6-foot-8, but a robust 270 pounds. He really knew how to throw that weight around in the post, bashing UNC defenders down to the tune of 18 points on 9/18 shooting. Mitchell was giving me flashbacks of former Notre Dame player Bonzie Colson, another shorter/thicc player who used to give Carolina fits.

Against Michigan State, UNC will have to match up against a more traditional size. The Spartans are tall and rugged, and Hubert Davis will not have to remind his team that they won't likely be +9 in rebounds if they aren't completely locked in.

East Carolina is a chump team that has lost to any team they've played this season with a pulse, but Michigan State was extremely professional in dispatching them. UNC could have used a no-nonsense win over St. Bonaventure to match, but squandered its first-half lead to make it a tighter contest. Do that against the Spartans, and Hubert Davis will have a dark Black Friday.
