Lessons Learned as TCU humiliates UNC during Bill Belichick's debut

The hype was outweighed only by the punishment as the Horned Frogs poured it on North Carolina

Opening drive scripted perfectly

With all of the hype and build-up to Bill Belichick's first game, it was going to take something extraordinary to move the needle once the actual game started. To that end, North Carolina put together a nearly perfect opening drive.

Seven plays, only one without positive yardage, 2/2 completed passes to Jordan Shipp for a combined 58 yards, and a tough, up-the-gut touchdown run for Caleb Hood. The Tar Heels were off to a rip-roaring start!

Sometimes the scripted drives are the easiest ones to execute. The sledding got a lot tougher after that. UNC had three straight three-and-outs after that, and only broke up the streak with a pick-six series that started to put the game out of reach.

Offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens clearly wants to (or has been instructed to) establish the run. But TCU was betting that UNC would not successfully attack their defensive backfield, and had the mindset, ability, and determination to disrupt the run. North Carolina either needs to be dominant in the run game, or add some unpredictability to its play-calling.
