Quarterback
If reports that Gio Lopez earned $4 million in NIL compensation from the UNC football program are true, I have to applaud him and his agent for a job well done. They found a school that was willing to gamble that amount of money on a quarterback from the Sun Belt Conference to lift an ACC team to relevance.
UNC can't make that mistake two seasons in a row.
As mentioned previously, UNC has not had a running game to hang their hat on, and the offensive line play has been shaky all season. Freddie Kitchens had the maniacal plan to have Lopez roll right constantly, even though he is a LEFT HANDED QUARTERBACK!!!
But even with these things conspiring against him, our eyes and our hearts tell us that Gio Lopez is not the quarterback to lift the program out of the doldrums. It brings me no joy typing this, and I don't want to pile dirt on his grave. Lord knows Lopez has shown tremendous toughness with some of the hits he's taken all season. But his ceiling is lower than expected, and UNC needs to raise theirs next season.
No to Max Johnson, either.
