For the first time this season, Ian Jackson was named the ACC Player of the Week. He is the first Tar Heel to win this award this season.
Jackson's first start of the year against Campbell was the only game that the UNC basketball program played this week, and it was the basis for his recognition. He could not have asked for a better performance in his first start. With Seth Trimble sidelined with an upper-body injury, North Carolina had a slot open in the starting line-up. Jackson joined fellow freshman Drake Powell and dazzled in his debut with the starting five.
He led the Tar Heels in minutes played (36), points (26 on 9/16 shooting), and +/- rating (+17). Jackson also had the second most rebounds, grabbing five boards, two less than Jae'Lyn Withers.
This performance will bring Coach Hubert Davis an interesting dilemma. Does Jackson stay in the starting line-up? And if so, who does he replace? Surely UNC cannot run four guards, especially when Jackson is the tallest at just 6-foot-4? But if he has more games like he did against UCLA and Campbell, it'll be hard to keep Captain Jack on the bench.
