How will North Carolina's starting lineup look upon Seth Trimble's return?

This is one of the many questions fans are asking as January progresses.

Seth Trimble has missed three straight games due to an upper body injury.

His starting spot has been filled in by freshman phenom Ian Jackson, who was producing well coming off the bench. But his performance as a starter has been nothing short of elite. The Bronx, New York native has scored 20 points each in his first three starts.

In the UNC basketball program's last game against Notre Dame, where they took down the Irish courtesy of Elliot Cadeau's four-point play following a three-pointer sunk from the right wing — Jackson scored 27 points — a career-high.

Jackson is the first freshman since Tyler "Psycho T" Hansbrough to score at least 20 points in four straight games.

The question now is, "What is Head Coach Hubert Davis going to do once Seth Trimble is healthy?"

Should it be Cadeau? Trimble himself? Return Jackson back to the bench? Or maybe, perhaps, RJ Davis, who has been in a shooting slump the majority of the season?

But is it an easy one? Definitely not. To pick from an elite passer in his second year of college ball, a junior guard who has been a pest on defense and is finding his stride offensively, and a rookie who is looking like a lottery pick in this year's NBA draft come June. Or a fifth-year senior who has national championship experience and was the ACC Player of the Year just a season ago.

Decisions, decisions — regardless the four-guard tandem of UNC is heavy with talent when clicking on all cylinders. All of them will receive a great amount of minutes, starting or not.

However, this is my projection of the starting lineup upon Trimble's return:

Elliot Cadeau
RJ Davis
Ian Jackson
Drake Powell
Jalen Washington

I believe Trimble will come off the bench — his energy and production out of the sixth-man spot will be efficient and gives opposing guards a challenge minutes after tip-off.

It's hard not to keep Jackson in the starting lineup, as his scoring level is only seeming to become better and better. Cadeau is a true point guard, and despite some sloppy play at times — Carolina plays better when he's on the court.

And Davis? Well, he's an All-American, a guy with high-level college basketball experience, as well as being the longest-tenured player on the roster. Moving him to a bench role at this point in his career makes little sense- even with his struggles shooting the basketball, the Tar Heels are better when RJ Davis is on the floor.

The decision for Coach Davis and his staff is going to happen sometime this month, assuming Trimble recovers as hoped. So, we will all find out then who will be starting.

And for what it's worth, do not be surprised if all four of them end up starting. Some way, somehow — it could work with this kind of personnel.
