Henri Veesaar and Caleb Wilson accomplished an incredibly rare feat

The history behind it makes the accomplishment even more insane!

UNC Basketball fans have long known that the best North Carolina teams are the ones with great big men. From the Dean Smith era to Roy Williams and now Hubert Davis. The Tar Heel teams that have the most success always feast on having reliable big men and dominating the offensive glass.

On Sunday against Georgetown, Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar reminded us again of the potential that this year's Tar Heels have when both big men are clicking on all cylinders. Against the Hoyas, Wilson had 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Veesaar had 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Those two players combined for 38 points and 29 rebounds, a number that UNC Basketball hasn't seen a duo reach in over 20 years!

The last UNC big men duo to accomplish that was Sean May and Marvin Williams in the 2005 NCAA Tournament. That took place in the 2nd round against Iowa State as May had 24 points and 17 rebounds while Williams had 20 points and 15 rebounds.

That UNC Basketball big men duo was pretty good, and hung a National Championship banner in the Dean Smith Center rafters just a few short weeks after that dominating performance against the Cyclones.

There have been some pretty good duos since then: Tyler Hansbrough/Deon Thompson, Tyler Zeller/John Henson, Kennedy Meeks/Isaiah Hicks, and many more. Several of those won National Championships, but none of them accomplished the rare stat that Wilson and Veesaar put up against Georgetown.

This type of performance doesn't happen very often

It's an even more rare than just the first time it's happened since 2005. According to Jones Angell and Adam Lucas, it is only the second time this feat has been accomplished since 1958. And you can put together a lot of great UNC Basketball big-man duos, in addition to the ones already mentioned.

Through nine games this season, it's become pretty evident that this UNC Basketball team is going to rely on their size, and the success of the offense is going to be determined by Veesaar and Wilson. Wilson leads the team, averaging 19.3 points per game and 10.6 rebounds, while Veesaar is second on the team in points with 16.2 points per game and 9.2 rebounds per game.

How far can the 2025-2026 UNC Basketball team go? However far the Wilson/Veesaar duo can take them is becoming the common answer.
