The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is popularly known for its men's and women's basketball programs. In addition to baseball, football, women's soccer, and lacrosse, plus field hockey.
However, there has been one popular standout that shines a light on its golf program. Former Tar Heel, David Ford, who played golf for Carolina from 2021-2025, recently graduated and is off to the pros, an association that has seen the game's best players such as Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, and Arnold Palmer.
Here's what Vince Carter had to say:
"Hey David, this is Vince Carter here, and I wanted to congratulate you on getting your PGA Tour card. Man, how does that sound? Hey, know that the Carolina family believes in you, and we're cheering for you every step of the way. I can't wait to see you succeed with the pros, get that first tour win under your belt."
Then, while Carter grabs his Carolina blue shirt with the logo placed in the middle, he finishes the video by saying, "Go Heels."
While Bill Belichick is quite new to the Carolina family, he pitched in to send his warm regards to Ford:
"David, just wanted to wish you the best as you move forward towards the PGA Tour. I know the next steps are big ones, and we're all here pulling for you."
Interestingly enough, former football head coach Mack Brown chipped in as well:
"David, Coach Mack Brown here. Congratulations. Good luck moving forward. Go Heels."
But last and certainly not least, former basketball head coach Roy Williams closes the video in UNC fashion:
"I'm Roy Williams, that old guy who's still hanging around — being so happy to say, 'Congratulations to David Ford, PGA Tour Universe — University, whatever.' You've got something special, you're different, don't ever forget that. Congratulations, David, congratulations to your family. I look forward to many great things from you, but you're a tough little nut."
Four Tar Heels, all from the past and the present, celebrating the achievements of a recent UNC athlete making a mark in the pros.
