Conner Harrell will suit up for the Charlotte 49ers later this year, following his sophomore season in Chapel Hill.
The Charlotte Observer's Hunter Bailey with the report:
Harrell, threw for 282 yards on 21 of 37 attempts — a 56.8% completion rate this past season. He concluded his time as a Tar Heel with 552 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions — his longest throw standing at 58 yards while being sacked 10 times.
On the ground, he finished with 130 yards on 38 carries.
For more on Harrell's appearances in game, here's the insight as written on GoHeels:
"Threw two passes, completing one in game against Georgia Tech • Appeared in game against JMU • Started against NC Central, going 2-of-6 for 22 yards • Led UNC to win in the home opener against UNC Charlotte, throwing for career bests of 219 yards and two touchdowns through the air, with 39 yards and another score on the ground • Entered the opener against Minnesota with three minutes left in the third quarter and led UNC on two field goal drives, both while trailing • Was the first quarterback to come off the bench to lead the Heels to victory since 2008."
The UNC football program may have lost a quarterback but fortunately for them, they will plenty to work with as there will be a huge competition for the QB1 spot moving forward. Max Johnson who suffered a leg injury back in August in UNC's season opener is returning, highly-touted Bryce Baker looks to make an impact in his first year of college ball and Purdue transfer Ryan Browne.
And then, of course, Jacolby Criswell — a returning fifth-year senior who is coming off the best season of his career, beginning the year as the third-stringer before becoming the permanent starter.
First-year college head coach Bill Belichick will have his hands full and plenty of tough choices to make but there's no question that his QB room is filled with players to pick and choose from.
