Former UNC basketball sharpshooter is a very intriguing potential trade candidate

Cam Johnson is becoming a hot name in the NBA trade market. There's no doubt about it, as the former Tar Heel is averaging 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists while shooting 48.8% from the field and 43.4% from three-point range.

According to Evan Sidery on X (formerly Twitter), Johnson has interest from the following NBA teams: Memphis Grizzlies, Orlando Magic, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Golden State Warriors. However, it shouldn't be a surprise if more teams follow the trend of pursuing Johnson.

All of the teams listed above will have great pieces to offer the Brooklyn Nets in return, as losing Johnson will come with consequences. A 6-foot-8 sharpshooter is hard to come by, considering the clip Johnson shoots it at.

The Moon Township, Pennsylvania native is currently in his seventh season in the NBA after being selected in the lottery back in the 2019 Draft by the Phoenix Suns. Johnson was then traded to the Nets during the 2022-23 season and has been arguably playing his best basketball.

Imagine a Warriors team with Steph Curry, Buddy Hield and Johnson. A new trio would be formed in the Bay Area. Or perhaps, a deadly knockdown shooter for Ja Morant and the Grizzlies. Regardless of wherever he lands, success lies in the future — the only way that happens is if the head coach uses Johnson incorrectly, which is hard to do.

Johnson was a memorable player in his last season in Chapel Hill, playing on a roster featuring now-Chicago Bulls Coby White, Kenny Williams, Garrison Brooks, Luke Maye, and Nassir Little.

In the end, Johnson may have a home sooner or later. Regardless of if he's dealt or not, Johnson continues to serve as a success story for the former Tar Heels in the Pros.
