Elliot Cadeau has accomplished something we haven’t seen in over 20 seasons
Second-year point guard Elliot Cadeau is off to an extremely impressive start to the 2024 season for the UNC basketball program—and has already made history.
All of the talk about Cadeau leading up to his sophomore campaign seemed to be centered around the rumors of an improved three-point shot. After finishing last season at just 18.9% from behind the arc, Cadeau currently sits at 40% from three after three games.
While those rumors have proved to be true, it seems that his three-point shooting isn’t the only thing that’s improved this offseason. The pass-first guard has stepped up his game in almost every other aspect as well and is off to a historic start this season in Chapel Hill.
Cadeau is the first Tar Heel to score at least 12 points and seven assists in the first three games since Ed Cota in 1999-2000. That same season, Cota earned 2nd-team all-conference honors and helped lead the Tar Heels to a Final Four appearance as an eighth seed in the NCAA tournament.
Cadeau’s field goal percentage has jumped to 48.1%, more than 6% higher than last season (41.7%), and he is averaging 15.7 points, more than twice as much as he averaged a season ago (7.3). The sophomore is also averaging an impressive 2.7 steals per game, tied with Jayden Taylor of NC State for fourth-best in the ACC. He also leads the ACC in assists per game with 7.7.
Cadeau’s remarkable start to the 2024 season has certainly validated the offseason buzz, and if he continues to play at this level, he should have a good case for making an All-ACC team this season.
