When it comes to Carolina-Duke, it's the Greatest Rivalry in all of Sports. If you disagree, well... too bad.
Argue with a wall.
This rivalry ALWAYS delivers. What makes it so much different than the rest like Yankees-Red Sox, Auburn-Alabama, or Ohio State-Michigan? Well it's pretty simple.
These two teams are the top of the college basketball world, consistently. And when they face each other, the college basketball world stops because the two programs play so closely together year in and year out. And they've done so for the last half century.
Saturday will mark the 88th meeting in which both Duke and North Carolina are ranked.

That is 47 more than any other matchup.
In those games:
North Carolina: 44 wins, 77.9 PPG
Duke: 43 wins, 77.4 PPG
Look how close those stats are in the matchups. You can't get any closer over such a large sample size. That's why when the basketball schedule comes out every fall around mid-September, the first date circled for basketball fans on Tobacco Road is the Carolina-Duke game.
The first match up always feels a little more heightened than the rest because it's been almost 365 days since the last match up. And in the case of Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program, it's been a minute since the Tar Heels have tasted the sweetness of victory against their bitter rival.
Duke has won three in a row, sweeping the season series last year and beating the Tar Heels in the ACC Tournament.
That doesn't mean round two won't have as much attention. It certainly will. But for round one, fans of both sides have waited so long, this one just has all eyes on it.
This visual chart shows just how back and forth this series has been with the sides trading streaks of two and three game sets for the last few years for the most part.

Both programs had mid-week games on Monday and Tuesday this week, and well before those games even tipped off, ESPN was already running commercials to showcase the big game this week. And of course... College Game Day is in town.
WE'RE HEADING TO CHAPEL HILL NEXT WEEKEND FOR ONE OF THE BEST RIVALRIES IN SPORTS 🤩 pic.twitter.com/ZH062cqXyH

Every major outlet will have someone in Chapel Hill to cover the game. Add in the fact that it is a top-15 matchup with significant ACC standing implicants and NCAA Tournament resume opportunities, this game has all the makings to live up to the hype, once again.
Top NBA Talent
As if it wasn't enough just being Carolina-Duke, we don't have an official number yet, but fully expect a majority, if not all 30, of NBA teams to have a scout in attendance to see Cameron Boozer and Caleb Wilson showcase their talents head to head as both are projected to be top picks in next year's NBA Draft.
Getting Closer
Every work day that passes by means we're that much closer to Saturday night and a rivalry that we all love and cherish so much. It brings so much excitement and nerves. And we're almost there.
This is Carolina-Duke. And it ALWAYS delivers. Welcome to the Greatest Rivalry In Sports!
