The disrespect of Bill Belichick in the college football media continues.

CBSSports.com put together their.annual rankings of college football coaches int the Power 4 conferences and six-time Super Bowl champion (eight if you count his years as a defensive coordinator) was ranked 54th overall and 12th in the ACC.

Yes, Bill Belichick, arguably the most successful football coach to ever roam the sidelines, is seven slots lower than Hugh Freeze, who is 11-14 in two seasons at Auburn and looks completely lost on the sides. He's 34 spots lower than Mario Cristobal and go ask a Miami Hurricanes fan what they think of Cristobal's coaching.

They explain this ranking by saying: "No profile has been more difficult to place than Belichick's. On one hand, he's considered one of the greatest coaches in NFL history with six Super Bowl titles. On the other, he hasn't been involved in college football since playing at Wesleyan University in the 1970s."

Yeah, ok.

Hey look, I'm not suggesting that Bellichick be placed at No. 1 or even in the top 10. Dabo Swinney is ranked as the top coach in the ACC (third overall) and you know what? He deserves it. He's proven himself over a number of years and has filled the Clemson football facility with a lot of trophies.

What I don't think the people doing these rankings appreciate is the ability to build a football roster.  In the days of the transfer portal, the NIL and major roster overhauls from year to year, it is a lot more difficult to hold Belichick's "lack of experience" against him. The game is shifting from just piling up the top 5 recruiting classes annually to evaluating both transfers and incoming recruits. There aren't many coaches better at evaluating players and their fit in his system than Belichick.

I don't want to give these silly rankings any more bandwidth than they deserve, it's just to point out this very strange issue that the college football media seems to have with Belichick coaching. You would think they would embrace the idea of the most successful NFL coach coming down to college, but it looks like he will have to win them over.
