It is June, and Bill Belichick is still the head coach of the UNC football program. While rumors of him leaving during the summer occurred in the earlier stages of boarding the ship, Belichick can still be found in Chapel Hill, far from the NFL.
Belichick has continued his duties as head coach, recruiting Kosci Barnes, a three-star cornerback from Grimsley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Belichick's offer gives Barnes his 25th offer as he is being sought out by other notable programs in college football, such as Michigan State, James Madison, Kentucky, and Louisville.
Despite all of the controversy of Belichick's life off the field (his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, comes to mind first) he is still doing what it takes to turn North Carolina into a top football team in the country.
Former head coach Mack Brown ended his final season in Chapel Hill with a record of 6-7, falling to UConn in the Fenway Bowl.
Injuries played a huge role in the lack of success for UNC, and losing Texas A&M transfer Max Johnson in the season opener against Minnesota did not help either.
Omarion Hampton, now with the San Diego Chargers after being drafted in the first round of this year's draft, was a highlight reel — being the offensive machine North Carolina needed to survive its opponents.
The defense was not a positive contributor too, as Carolina's 70-50 loss to James Madison at home, led to a frenzy all over the internet.
However, with a new coaching staff behind Belichick, including his son, Steve Belichick as the defensive coordinator, things should look much different next season.
It will be interesting to see if Belichick's NFL skills will transfer over to the college world, but the odds of that happening should not be held low — he did win eight Super Bowls after all.
