What did the Tar Heels’ new head coach have to say about his new position as the UNC football program's head coach?

There’s never been a bigger day in the history of the UNC football program than Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

With the Tar Heels and Bill Belichick signing a contract agreement, North Carolina has landed the greatest football coach ever. Coach Belichick is in a class of his own. He’s won the most Super Bowls in NFL history, with eight — six of which were as a head coach. He’s also the second-winningest NFL coach ever.

Upon his hire, Belichick mentioned his eagerness to coach at the college level. And it seems conquering the college game is the last thing for coach Belichick to do during his storied, Hall of Fame career.

As Belichick stated, college football runs in his blood. His father coached for over 30 years in college. In fact, North Carolina’s hiring of coach Belichick came full circle for his family, as his father was an assistant coach at UNC for three seasons, from 1953 to 1955.

There will certainly be a learning curve for Belichick during this new-age, NIL era of college football. However, if anyone is cut out for the challenge, it’s the "GOAT". Belichick’s vision of essentially running an NFL program at the college level should get Tar Heel Nation very excited.

With Belichick being around college football growing up and with his father coaching at UNC, this partnership seems meant to be. And for the cherry on top, coach Belichick reportedly already has a hatred for Duke. He was destined to be a Tar Heel.
