One of the main topics during Bill Belichick's hiring as the UNC football program's next head coach is who will be on his staff. Belichick can go in either direction with the NFL or grab names from the college landscape, perhaps a mixture.
But Ian Rapport on X (formerly Twitter) reports that the six-time Super Bowl champion is targeting the Raiders' offensive coordinator, Scott Turner.
Turner, 42 years old, started his NFL coaching career as the Carolina Panthers' offensive quality control coach during the 2011-12 season. Ever since then, he has been a part of other NFL organizations such as the Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, Washington Commanders and now the Las Vegas Raiders.
It should be mentioned that Turner was the Michigan Wolverines offensive analyst in 2017 — right in the middle of all his NFL gigs. The Wolverines concluded the season with a record of 8-5. Not only that, he also served as the Oregon State Beavers graduate assistant in 2005 and as the offensive assistant coach as well as wide receivers coach for the Pittsburgh Panthers from 2008-2010.
Long story short, Turner is not a newbie when it comes to the college game — which will be of great value for Belichick.
Belichick will have a lot to learn as UNC's head coach but will have support from a guy like Turner and perhaps everyone else that he decides to hire onto his staff. The possibilities are endless — imagine the contacts Belichick has on his phone, and with a click of a button can begin stirring the pot to help propel football in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels' previous offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey, has taken a role at Michigan but it seems like Belichick may have found his replacement in Turner.
This is only one of many possible coaching moves, so Carolina fans be prepared for what's to come in the future.
