The North Carolina Tar Heels are feeling the heat as top head coach targets continue to sign new contracts or find new homes as the coaching carousel speeds up.

However, one candidate, whom the Tar Heels should truly go after with full force, is still in the middle of his postseason: Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd, who has taken the Wildcats back to the Final Four.

Lloyd has earned himself a place among the current great coaches in the country since taking over the Arizona program in 2021. Now, even legendary Wildcats are growing worried he may jump ship once the season is done to bring his talents to Chapel Hill.

Derrick Williams, who was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2011 while leading Arizona to the Elite Eight, recently expressed his concern that Lloyd would better deal the Wildcats for the Tar Heels, a program truly cemented as a blue blood.

Derrick Williams is worried Tommy Lloyd will leave Arizona

"UNC is a huge job," Williams said on Yahoo Sports Daily. "I've been seeing multiple sources, from different guys, of him possibly being the new coach at UNC."

Well, if a former legend is hearing through the woodworks that Lloyd is lined up to take over in Chapel Hill, it might just be true. However, he also shared that he doesn't think Lloyd would ever abandon ship before the job is actually finished.

"He really wants to win this whole thing; getting to the Final Four is not enough," Williams said. "I believe he wants to stay in the moment and enjoy this run."

As Lloyd and the Wildcats prepare for the Final Four, where they will face the Michigan Wolverines, the rumor mill will be as busy as ever, especially as the Tar Heels work to narrow their search for Hubert Davis's replacement.
