It’s a good thing I’m not a financial advisor.
Last week, I predicted that the UNC football program would suffer its fifth loss in a row. Nothing in the previous four weeks had given fans any hope that improvement was just around the corner. But a bye week at the right time was just the tonic for the Tar Heels to beat the brakes off Virginia 41-14.
Now UNC must travel down to Doak Campbell Stadium, where the Tar Heels have not won since 2016 and Mack Brown is 0-11 against his alma mater. And while he’s not exactly bringing a juggernaut into town, the Seminoles have been so bad this season, if he was ever going to get a win, this year has to be the time, right?
Quarterback Brock Glenn is No. 1 on the depth chart, but he’ll have Seminole fans’ blood pressure spiking if he's on the field. Freshman backup Luke Kromenhoek is raw but can run and throw a football over them mountains. He may be worth a gamble since this is now officially a lost season for Florida State (the loss to Miami made them bowl-ineligible).
North Carolina finds itself in a peculiar place as a favorite on the road. Can they play a mature game against a suffering team, or will they crumble under the weight of mistakes and sloppiness? The win at Virginia sparks hope, and hope can be a dangerous thing.
