Both UNC Basketball programs continue to stay ranked in the latest edition of the AP Top 25 poll, as neither saw much movement this week despite losses.

The UNC Women’s Basketball program entered last week at No. 24 in the AP Top 25 Rankings despite dropping a game the previous week (to No. 1 South Carolina). This week was no different in the rankings as Courtney Banghart’s squad continued to stay just inside the top 25 following another difficult loss, this time to No. 17 Connecticut.

The Tar Heels couldn’t overcome a lack of depth due to injuries to pull off an upset of the Huskies on Sunday in Mohegan Sun Arena but continued to earn respect from some voters as they only fell one spot in this week’s AP Poll and are now No. 25. Next up for the UNC Women’s Basketball team will be hosting Western Carolina on Friday, December 15th.

The UNC Basketball program also had a similar result as the women did last week. Hubert Davis’ squad entered the week No. 9 in the country after jumping into the top 10 for the first time this season. The challenge? A matchup in Madison Square Garden with defending National Champions and No. 5 Connecticut.

The Tar Heels battled the Huskies hard but just couldn’t get over the hump in the second half, which had poor shooting and getting outrebounded by Connecticut in an 87-76 loss. It was a good measuring stick for where the current team is as they headed into an 11-day exam break.

Like the UNC Women’s Basketball team, the Tar Heels didn’t see much movement from their No. 9 ranking last week. North Carolina is once again ranked No. 9 in this week’s version of the AP Poll, remaining in the top 10 and preparing for future matchups with two other top 15 programs on the horizon.

The UNC Basketball program will now prepare to head to Atlanta for the CBS Sports Classic versus No. 14 Kentucky on Saturday, December 16th, before heading to Charlotte to participate in the Jumpman Invitational and face No. 11 Oklahoma on Wednesday, December 20th.
