UNC Basketball Guard Earns ACC Co-Player Of The Week Honors
By Jordan Falls
A big week in the three-day event at the Battle 4 Atlantis for UNC Basketball guard RJ Davis has earned him ACC Co-Player of The Week Honors.
The UNC Basketball program went 2-1 last week in the Battle 4 Atlantis. During the three-day tournament event format, senior guard RJ Davis had a huge role in the Tar Heels success throughout the event.
Davis averaged 22 points and three assists throughout the tournament in the Bahamas, including tying his career high on Friday against Arkansas with 30 total points. Against Villanova on Thanksgiving Day in the two-point overtime loss for North Carolina, Davis had 23 points.
His performance in Atlantis not only earned him Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week but he was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Davis shared the ACC Co-Player of the Week honors with Florida State redshirt junior forward Jamir Watkins. Watkins was the Sunshine Slam MVP for the Seminoles, averaging 18.5 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, and 6 assists per game.
Through the first six games of the UNC Basketball season, Davis is the team’s leading scorer, with 18.2 points per game, and leading the team with minutes played per game at 32.2. The Tar Heels will need more of the same production from Davis over the next several weeks of non-conference action as the competition does not get any easier.
Next up for the UNC Basketball program is No. 10-ranked Tennessee, who will come to the Dean E. Smith Center on Wednesday, November 29th, for the SEC/ACC Challenge. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7:15 PM on ESPN.
