Courtney Banghart

Courtney Banghart came to Chapel Hill and took over the UNC Women’s Basketball program before the 2019-2020 season after spending twelve seasons at Princeton, recording a 254-103 overall record (71.1% win percentage). Banghart took over a program that was 61-64 in the four seasons prior to her arrival.

Since then, she has worked on taking the program back to the heights that it reached in the mid-2000s when it made two Elite Eight appearances and two Final Four appearances in four years. During her four seasons, she has an 80-42 overall record (65.5% win percentage) and has put the Tar Heels back on the National radar.

While there is still plenty of room for the program to grow and new heights for it to reach, the 2023-2024 UNC Women’s Basketball team is the deepest and most talented that she has had during her time at Carmichael Arena.

The Tar Heels will spend their Thanksgiving in Estero, Florida, participating in the Gulf Coast Showcase and facing some challenging competition, but while we’re watching North Carolina play this weekend, we will be sure to recognize how thankful we are that Courtney Banghart is a Tar Heel and that she has rejuvenated a program that had been down the few years prior to her arrival.
