There is an expected change in hierarchy coming soon for the North Carolina Tar Heels administration as Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz is expected to resign.

The news of The North Carolina Tar Heels 12th Chancellor, Kevin Guskiewicz, potentially leaving his current position has been circling for a few days now. Guskiewicz has been tied to the Michigan State presidency role for some time, and most recently, it was announced he was the lone remaining candidate for the role.

On Friday afternoon, InsideCarolina reported that Guskiewicz is indeed expected to leave his role in Chapel Hill with the University, even if it isn’t to accept the Michigan State job.

Guskiewicz has been a major factor in the re-alignment decision revolving around the North Carolina Tar Heels Athletics program, and it has been rumored this could be his final academic year regardless due to some conflicts with this decision between him and the University’s Board of Trustees.

Guskiewicz has been the Chancellor since February 2019, when he took the position in an interim role. There have been three candidates assumed to be in line to take the interim role if and when Guskiewicz leaves North Carolina. Those candidates are, according to InsideCarolina, Lee Roberts, Chris Clemens, and Malcolm Turner.

No matter which candidate takes the role, we can assume the new chancellor will have a significant impact on the new realignment of college athletics and if the North Carolina Tar Heels make a move outside of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
