There is a strong recruiting class coming to the UNC Women’s Basketball program, and one commit has been named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List.

Courtney Banghart has been heavily recruiting top talent across the country to come join the UNC Women’s Basketball program for over five years.

The 2023-2024 Tar Heels are an evident display of that, as Banghart will be the first to tell you this is the deepest and most talented team she has had during her time in Carmichael Arena.

But in coaching and sports, you always look to continue to build for the future. An evident display of that is Class of 2024 UNC Women’s Basketball commit Blanca Thomas has been named to the pre-season Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year Watch List.

Thomas is a five-star recruit from Charlotte, North Carolina, and part of a 2024 Class that has one other commit in it, four-star recruit Jordan Zubich. Thomas is currently ranked as the 30th player in her class according to ESPN’s Rankings.

It is unknown if the Class of 2024 is complete yet at this moment or not, but with the extra-COVID year of eligibility being granted, depending on current players staying in 2024-2025, the Tar Heels may be battling a scholarship limit. One thing is for certain, Banghart is continuing to build a talented roster full of depth, and this award for Thomas is just another example of that.

The Naismith Trophy preseason watch list consists of the top 50 high school players in the country. To view the full Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year Watch List, please click here.
