UNC Football: Cheering Guide (Based on ACC Championship)
By Jordan Falls
Virginia Beats Duke
We’re going backward in time here based on the order of importance of these results, not necessarily the order of the games being played. UNC Football needs Duke to win only one of its final two games, but not both.
Again, just like with the NC State versus Virginia Tech scenario, we’re choosing the more likely opponent to get the win here. Duke has two games remaining against Virginia and Pittsburgh. The Tar Heels just saw how much of a problem the Blue Devils can cause, even with a third-string quarterback.
We’re picking the Cavaliers to have a better chance to pull off a victory against the Blue Devils than the Panthers for two reasons: 1) Virginia has looked better this season, despite their record, they have been in close games, and 2) the Blue Devils have to travel to Virginia instead of facing Pittsburgh at home.
It’s also important to note that this final piece of the scenario in the first slide has two other options even if Duke were to win its final two games, there are other possibilities for the Tar Heels (but it could potentially include Virginia Tech beating NC State and losing to Virginia, or the scenario listed in the next slide).
So while this outcome doesn’t exactly eliminate UNC Football from the ACC Championship race like the other ones up to this point would, it could become that more unlikely.
Duke will travel to Virginia on Saturday for a 3:00 PM on the CW Network (hey, it’s the CW, an upset can happen there, right?)
