Two UNC Basketball players have been named to the Preseason Player of the Year Watch List for the 2023-2024 college basketball season.

As the UNC Basketball program prepares to get the 2023-2024 college basketball season underway this evening, it was announced on Monday afternoon that two Tar Heels have been named to the Naismith Preseason Player of the Year Watch List.

Senior RJ Davis and fifth-year Senior Armando Bacot were both named to the Watch List for National Player of the Year. Davis was also named to the Cousy Award Watch List this offseason. Meanwhile, Bacot has racked up numerous preseason honors, being named as an AP Preseason First-Team All-American, First-Team All-ACC, and one of the 20 players named to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award Watch List.

Both players are key returners for the UNC basketball program, as they hope to help guide this new-look Tar Heels team to a deep postseason run come March.

The Naismith Preseason Player of the Year Watch List starts the college basketball season with a list of 50 names for both men’s and women’s college basketball. At the mid-way point of the college basketball season, the list will be trimmed to 30 candidates. The award is presented to the nation’s best player and is based on voting among coaches, administrators, and journalists.
