UNC Football: Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker Injury Update
By Jordan Falls
Devontez Walker suffered an injury late in the fourth quarter of UNC Football’s game versus Georgia Tech, and we have an update regarding his status.
It was a rough night for the UNC Football program in Atlanta as they suffered their second straight loss on the 2023 season, the third straight loss to Georgia Tech, and their 11th loss in the last 13 trips at Georgia Tech.
Star wide receiver Tez Walker made a huge catch on 3rd and 17 that was going to be for a gain of 36 yards to move the Tar Heel offense into Yellow Jacket territory with 2:54 remaining in the fourth quarter and trailing 46-42. However, after making the catch and run, Walker was blindsided on a hit by Georgia Tech defensive back Ahmari Harvey.
It was an unfortunate sequence of events for the Tar Heels as not only did Walker fumble on the play, ending the hopes of a comeback, but he was shaken up on the play and needed help walking off the field. After getting to the sideline, North Carolina trainers requested a cart to help Walker off the sideline and transported him to a local hospital.
We still do not know what injury Walker is dealing with, but we do know that he has been released from the hospital and is traveling back to Chapel Hill with the UNC Football program today.
We will have more updates on Walker’s injury status as we receive them.
