On Wednesday afternoon, ahead of its game with No. 25 Miami, the UNC Football coaching staff released an updated depth chart.

We haven’t had an updated depth chart release from the UNC Football program since after the week one performance against South Carolina. Following their win over Syracuse, the Tar Heel coaching staff opted to provide a depth chart update before the upcoming game against the No. 25 ranked Miami Hurricanes.

The biggest note is, of course, the addition of Tez Walker to the depth chart at the wide receiver position. North Carolina found out just 48 hours prior to its game against the Orange that Walker had been deemed eligible immediately by the NCAA. At that point, the game plan had already been pieced together, and all that was left was a walkthrough on Friday, which was too late to implement anything specifically for him.

Of course, Walker still played last Saturday and was impressive, considering he hadn’t practiced with the first team in nearly three weeks. Now that he is able to return to practice, Walker has earned his starting spot back at the wide receiver position.

If you are wondering how this shakes out with three starting wide receivers listed, it will look like this on Saturdays going forward. Walker and JJ Jones will be the Tar Heels starting outside wide receivers, while Kobe Paysour and Nate McCollum will return to the slot and share time in that role. We may see Paysour and McCollum outside occasionally but expect the majority of their snaps to come from the slot position in that Josh Downs type of role moving forward.

This update is crucial for the UNC football program, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Walker has the ability to cause problems for defenses, and now that the Tar Heels can move Paysour back into the slot position where he really has thrived in his career can be an important factor and take the Tar Heels offense from good to great (or great to even greater).

One thing is for sure: every UNC Football fan is thrilled that Tez Walker is back in the lineup and on the depth chart. He will receive his first start Saturday night, under the lights in Kenan Stadium, when the No. 12 ranked Tar Heels welcome the Hurricanes to Chapel Hill for a 7:30 PM kickoff.
