The 18 greatest UNC basketball players of the Roy Williams era
By Jordan Falls
No. 13: Brice Johnson
Next up on this list is a classmate and teammate of Paige, Brice Johnson. A team doesn’t make the Final Four because of just one player, so when you have a duo like Paige and Johnson, it certainly helps, especially when it is a guard/big man combo.
During his senior season in 2015-2016, Johnson averaged 28.0 minutes per game while also averaging a double-double with 17 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game. Not only did he score, but he scored effectively, making 61.4% of his field goal attempts. To go along with his scoring and rebounding ability, he also became a legitimate rim protector for the Tar Heels in the paint, averaging more than a block per game during his time in Chapel Hill.
Another product of Roy Williams’ development, his last two seasons were his best, and his accolades show that. In 2015, he was named Third-Team All-ACC, and in 2016, he earned First-Team All-ACC, ACC All-Defensive Team, and National Consensus first-team All-American honors.
The first-team All-American award in 2016 also meant that his No. 11 jersey is honored next to Paige in the Dean Smith Center rafters.
