UNC Football: Players of the Game versus Syracuse
By Jordan Falls
It was a dominating performance for UNC Football on Saturday as they beat Syracuse 40-7. Who were the Players of the Game for the Tar Heels?
The UNC football team put together their best performance of the 2023 season en route to a 40-7 victory over the Syracuse Orange. There were some great stats racked up by all units on Saturday in Chapel Hill, but four players earned Player of the Game honors from the Tar Heel coaching staff on Monday.
Offensively, star quarterback Drake Maye won the Player of the Game honors as he was 33/47 passing for 442 yards and three touchdowns. He also racked up 55 yards rushing on the ground and spread the ball around to 11 different receivers.
On the defensive side of the ball, senior defensive lineman Myles Murphy was named the Player of the Game by the coaching staff for his dominant performance upfront and creating pressure in the Syracuse backfield. He racked up five total tackles, including a tackle for loss.
The special teams unit had Co-Players of the game, as they have had several times this season as Noah Burnette and Liam Boyd both won the award this week. Burnette made all four of his extra point attempts while also going 4-for-4 on his field goal attempts, hitting a long of 36 yards. Boyd had nine kickoff attempts and recorded a touchback on every attempt. Personally, I believe Ben Kiernan should’ve received this award for his effort to pick up the first down in the first half on his only punt attempt.
